Among the fastest growing scams of 2024, the following have stood out as the most prevalent:

  • Fake Parcel Delivery Texts (40%): These scams involve fraudulent notifications that appear to be from delivery services, urging recipients to click links to reschedule deliveries or pay fees. These links often lead to phishing sites designed to steal sensitive information or install malware.
  • Social Media Marketplace Scams (30%): Scammers have increasingly targeted platforms like Facebook Marketplace, Instagram, and TikTok, using fake profiles and stolen photos to advertise goods that don’t exist. Victims make payments, only to realize they’ve been duped once the goods never arrive.
  • AI Voice Cloning Scams (30%): AI-driven technology has made it possible for scammers to impersonate trusted individuals by cloning their voices. This deception is used to trick victims into authorizing fraudulent transactions, often making these scams incredibly difficult to detect.

Shockingly the data also revealed that 33% of British adults said that if they did lose money to a scam, they wouldn’t feel comfortable discussing the loss with family or friends.
